Glory Community Church

Privacy notice

Last updated 3 October 2026

This notice explains how Glory Community Church (“GCC”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and looks after personal information. We are responsible for the information described here, and we follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Glory Community Church meets at Firstsite, Lewis Gardens, High Street, Colchester CO1 1JH.

If you have a question about this notice or your information, contact us:

  • Phone: +44 7405 249486
  • Email: glorycommunitychurch1@gmail.com

What information we collect

When you get in touch

If you phone us, email us or message us on Facebook or Instagram, we keep your name, your contact details and what you tell us, including any prayer requests.

When you attend or join the church

If you come regularly or become a member, we may keep your name, contact details and anything you choose to share with us, such as pastoral or prayer needs. For the members’ prayer meeting and the Bible study on Zoom, we keep a list of who takes part so we can send the details.

Photos, filming and livestreams

Our Sunday services may be photographed, filmed and streamed live on our Facebook and Instagram pages. If you would rather not appear, please tell one of the church team and we will do our best to keep you out of shot.

We ask before using a recognisable photo of you on this website or our social media, and we always ask a parent or guardian before using a photo of a child. You can ask us to remove a photo at any time.

When you visit this website

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking. Like every website, our hosting provider records basic technical details (such as your IP address and browser type) when pages are requested, to keep the site secure and working. We do not use these details to identify you.

Why we use it, and the law that allows us to

  • To reply to you and to run church life, such as keeping in touch, organising meetings and caring for members. This is in our legitimate interests as a church.
  • To share worship with people who cannot be there, by filming and streaming services. This is also in our legitimate interests, and you can ask not to appear.
  • To use recognisable photos on our website and social media. We do this with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To meet our legal duties, for example to keep people safe (safeguarding) or when the law requires us to share information.

Information about faith and health

Being part of a church can show what you believe, and prayer requests can include health or other personal matters. The law treats this as “special category” information. We use it only as part of the normal life of the church, about members, former members and people in regular contact with us, and we do not share it outside the church without your consent. When you share something sensitive, for example in a prayer request, we only pass it on to the people you agree to, such as those praying for you.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We only share it:

  • with people in the church who need it to help you, such as those leading prayer;
  • with services that help us run things: our website host (Vercel Inc.), Google, which provides our church email (Gmail), and Zoom, which we use for online Bible study;
  • when the law requires it, or to protect someone at risk of harm.

Some of these services are based in the United States. Where information goes outside the UK, it is protected by safeguards approved under UK data protection law.

Our Facebook and Instagram pages run on Meta’s platforms. When you visit them, follow our links or watch a livestream, Meta’s privacy policy applies. If you choose to show the map on our website, Google’s privacy policy applies.

How long we keep it

  • Messages and enquiries: up to 12 months after we last hear from you, unless you join the church.
  • Church contact lists (members, prayer meeting and Bible study): while you are involved, and up to 12 months after you leave.
  • Photos and videos: until they are no longer needed, or until you ask us to remove them.
  • Records the law requires us to keep, such as safeguarding records: for as long as the law or official guidance requires.

Cookies

This website does not set any cookies.

The map in the “Where & when we meet” section only loads if you choose to show it. Once it loads, Google may set cookies. Our links to Facebook and Instagram take you to those sites, which use their own cookies.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to stop or limit how we use it, or object to our use of it;
  • ask us to send it to you or someone else in a common format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it.

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details above. There is no charge, and we will reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or call 0303 123 1113.
